THE MOST ROMANTIC TOWN ON THE MEDITERRANEAN
In the north west tip of Croatia lies the Istrian Peninsula. This area was once part of Italy and still has a very Italian culture and feel. Some say this is what Tuscany used to be like many years ago. Rovinj was my favorite city in this area (and one of my favorites in all of Croatia!). The Old Town was so charming... narrow winding streets, colorful stone houses with bright shutters, and a beautiful harbor. I completely fell in love with Rovinj while getting lost strolling around the pedestrian only cobblestone streets.
Wandering the streets is the best way to explore Rovinj. Walk all the way up to the church and climb to the top for magnificent views. The beautiful harbor lights up in the evenings. It's really lovely to walk around and have an outdoor dinner or cocktail. There are ferries that will take you to nearby islands. Or rent a sailboat or catamaran to explore some of the less explored islands. The water was warm and crystal clear for swimming! This area is also known for its fantastic gastronomy. Just outside of Rovinj you'll find miles and miles of vineyards, truffles, and olive groves, surrounding its stunning hilltop towns.
The sunset was also spectacular in Rovinj. The colors lasted for well over an hour and we enjoyed it while having dinner at a seaside restaurant. It was magical!
I'm sure you will also fall in love with the charming town of Rovinj. If you'd like to learn more about Croatia please feel free to reach out. I would be happy to share more about our recent trip.
